(More customer reviews)I wanted some nice music in my new, small open runabout. But I wasn't crazy about getting the typical am-fm-cd receiver. My past experience with these types of receivers on boats wasn't very good. The CD slot typically lets in lots of moisture and dirt. And it was difficult keeping CDs from being damaged by sun, heat and dirt. I considered just getting one with an aux input and playing tunes from my smartphone. But I didn't really want to expose my phone to water, sand and sun.
Then I saw this Dual unit on Amazon. What a great idea! No CD player. In its place, SD card and USB inputs. I copied a couple thousand tunes onto an SD card, and, presto, a really practical way to play your own music on a small, open boat.
The execution is nearly flawless--inserting the SD card switches the input automatically. The card inserts almost flush so it isn't easily damaged. This receiver is only about four inches deep and very light so it doesn't need rear support. The sound quality is pretty good even with the cheap speakers that are part of the package. (I may decide to upgrade those in the future.) The FM reception is also excellent. It looks really cool after dark.
There could be a few improvements. It would be great if station memory would remain even wihout any power. And, I wish the card slot would be waterproof with a card inserted. But these are minor nits on an otherwise great product. I highly recommend it.
